Cell Phones for Soldiers
The Auxiliary is participating in the above program and welcomes all Legion organizations to participate. Basically phone donations are made, then sent to ReCellular (a phone recycling company) who then gives Cell Phones for Soldiers (which is a 501(C)(3) Organization), a 60 minute calling card (per phone). These calling cards will be sent to Soldiers serving abroad so they can maintain contact with loved ones.
A "Cell Phones for Soldiers" drop box is being ordered for Post 49. Anyone can donate cell phones, their chargers and clips. If you are concerned about privacy, you can access instructions online from your phone company to erase phone data prior to donating your phone. Another option is to go to ReCellular.com or wirelessrecyclilng.com to erase your phone.
You do not have to include the "sim card" with the phone. However, if your donated phone does not have a battery, the organization does ask that you tape over the battery compartment.
If you need any additional information and assistance with "erasing" your phone please contact Auxiliary member Tracy Hopkins at: hopkinstracy@yahoo.com. Tracy advised she can erase information from your phone for you. Please give your phone to her prior to placing it in the drop box.
